Winter morning ritual... a tablespoon of Maltexo
I fondly remember the Maltexo tin in the cupboard above the bench in our childhood home. In winter it was part of the ritual before we four children left home for the bike 2 miles to catch the school bus. We lined up in the small kitchen to be fed a tablespoon of Malexto, a fluoride tablet and a vitamin C tablet – the first and last being much anticipated and the fluoride, dreaded. I rediscovered Maltexo when I had children of my own and use it regularly in my baking.

I remember my mum giving us a spoonful of Malt with cod liver oil and orange juice every week. We loved it and when I grew up and had my own family, I gave my 3 children Malt as well. It certainly is a winner in our family. I visited 3 chemists and asked for this product. They all had never heard of it, and we all came to the same conclusion, they were far too young to know or remember this product. Where can I buy the old fashioned Malt syrup (not powder) please? I would love to purchase it again for my grandchildren

My friend Jay has a lovely memory of having a spoonful of maltexo with her brothers and sisters. She laughs alot when remembering eating the Maltexo with Milk Biscuits and getting powdered milk and Maltexo splattered all over their faces.I was a tidier consumer but looked forward to Maltexo on a spoon and licked it clean. Also nice in your porridge. We were looking for Maltexo lately and could not find it either at 4 Square Oneroa or Countdown in Ostend Waiheke Island. Can we order online? Thanks for the memories ans hopefully where to buy today??

We always had Maltexo when we were kids and I remember my grandfather contacted the Maltexo Co. when he had cancer of the stomach and he was unable to eat but kept himself alive on Maltexo.
The company sent him cases of it. this would've been about 60 years ago.
I had'nt realized it was still made. I will look out for it at Supermarket and get some for my grandkids.

Great to see some Maltexo memories being shared and hopefully the goodness of Maltexo is still being passed on to the next generation!
The range of uses and the depth of flavour it adds to baking continues to amaze!
To those having trouble finding Maltexo, the best place to purchase is at supermarkets in either the Nutritional Supplement or Baking sections.
Unfortunately we are not in every single supermarket, but we are widely distributed in Countdown, New World and Pak n Save stores. Let us know if we aren't in your local.
Maltexo Original is also available online at shop.countdown.co.nz

I have many happy memories of eating Maltexo. Maltexo for breakfast, Maltexo for lunch, Maltexo for dinner. My father worked down t'pit and me dear old mam worked at the Maltexo factory. Whenever she was able, she'd steal a few tins of Maltexo from the assembly line and stuff it in her calfskin hand bag. To this day, the taste of Maltexo reminds me of those happy childhood days, climbing trees, chasing small dogs, breaking windows and making fires by the roadside. Thanks Maltexo.
